Enhancement Features
on Calcomp Scanners |

Dual 2D-Adaptive
Enhancement |
Before Adaptive thresholding |
Calcomp scanners are
built to provide clean, crisp scans from even poor quality drawings in
real-time without preceding pre-scans. The scanners highly sophisticated
image processing automatically adapts to the drawing, compensating for
varying background, faded areas and stains. |
After Adaptive thresholding |
Our scanners employ
"Dual 2D-Adaptive enhancement processing" that works on the
image's foreground, background and other image aspects separately. Dual
2D-Adaptive enhancement processing features include ADL+ error diffusion
half-toning, 2D-Adaptive foreground thresholding, 2D-Adaptive background
suppression and 2D-Auto edge enhancement. |
|
2D-Sharpening,
2D-Softening and Blur |
|
Calcomp scanners
incorporate specialized scanning modes with 2D-Auto edge enhancement,
that automatically will sharpen your image while you scan. Through the
NEXTimage and JETimage applications, you can manually set and control
sharpening, softening and blurring filters, giving you rich
possibilities for combining effects to obtain perfect enhancement
results.
|
For
example, you may have a drawing or map with details (text, lines) you
wish to sharpen. But if the image also contains large concentrated areas
of graytones, sharpening will make unwanted noise to appear in the
scanned image. By using the sharpen filter together with the blur
filter, you can obtain the desired sharpened edges without creating the
unwanted noise. Both filters can be set at different levels for ultimate
control of effects. |

Hardware/Software
Processing |
|

|
All our Wide Format
and Full Scale scanners perform sophisticated image enhancement
processing. On our high-level scanner models enhancement processing is
embedded in the hardware for optimal speed. On all the other models,
image enhancement is supported in Calcomp software -
NEXTimage
and
JETimage. |
